BC Gildenhuys & Associates CC was established in 1997 by Burgert Gildenhuys in response to the needs of the developing local government system in South Africa. The current environment developed from a very fragmented planning and development system. The formal recognition of integrated development planning as fundamental to government policy has left challenges that have to be met. Burgert Gildenhuys training, experience, and background in planning, development and municipal finance allowed him to respond with confidence to the changes in the municipal environment. Currently the business mix of B C Gildenhuys & Associates is a good balance between spatial planning, infrastructure investment planning and municipal financial work. Burgert Gildenhuys is nationally and internationally recognised as one of the few experts on the relationships between spatial planning, infrastructure provision on the one hand, and capital investment and operating consequences thereof at municipal level, on the other hand.

 

The Business Approach

The aim was and remains to keep the business as small as possible in order to be able to provide a direct and personal service to clients. BC Gildenhuys & Associates consists of only two members.  BC Gildenhuys (BSc Town & Regional Planning & B Admin Municipal Administration) responsible for all professional work and projects and MM Gildenhuys (B Admin Municipal Administration) responsible for business management.

 

BCG&A strives at building partnerships between small and micro-enterprises in the municipal environment. Valuable experience and skills are often locked up in individuals and smaller service providers that find it difficult to compete with large entities notwithstanding the fact that these skills and resources are of such a superior quality that it can be afforded by larger companies. 

 

BCG&A follows a value added approach through partnership building. In this approach we freely contract with other professional service provides who share our values and commitment to development and municipal service delivery. In this, our approach is more than just meeting project specifications but rather to solve problems and add value to our clients operational environment. We do this by forging long term relationships between us and our clients. We strive to be more than a service provider.

Our partnership approach is aimed at keeping the business small and focused. Our preference is therefore to contract and sub-contact with partners in providing value added skills to project teams. This however does not prevent BCG&A to contact independently with clients. 

We view our interaction with stakeholders in the municipal environment as building blocks in the process of creating a better society. We therefore adopt an approach towards our work and clients that incorporate the following:
